What a loss for the BBC. What a get for Bloomberg.

Delighted to share that the peerless Mishal Husain is joining Bloomberg. bloombergmedia.com/press/mishal-h… via @BBGMedia

It's Monday so here's my @FT pod column on the madly gripping Kill List, which tells of two tech experts who stumble on a hitman-for-hire website & a list of targets. As they set about trying to warn the victims, and police, things don't go quite to plan. ft.com/content/8e8a2c…

“Get bigger, sell more and be different — novelty, reinvention. I don’t find that very interesting.” Sally Rooney’s novels share similar themes, and she’s fine with that. She spoke about her latest release and more on The Interview. Read or listen here. nyti.ms/4eaEum9

Some of the lines in this - from @dtaberski - are so good I’ve been playing them on repeat … (“and you know what that means. well neither did they”)

Narrative podcasts still feature some of the best nonfiction storytelling happening today. "Hysterical"--which examines a mysterious illness that broke out among high school girls in upstate NY in 2011--is exceptional. By the always excellent @dtaberski vulture.com/article/hyster…

WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich is free. This is a day of great joy and relief for Evan, his family, WSJ colleagues, and all those who campaigned so hard for his release. It is also a great day for press freedom. Follow the story here (no paywall) wsj.com/articles/evan-…

“A writer must consider the psyche, the soul, the pulse, the danger, the wounds, the sins, the mirth, the sorrows and everything else of one’s country, and then write it in a language as pure and as deep as the place you are writing about.” RIP Edna thetimes.com/article/2876cc…

Absolutely outrageous. Journalism is not a crime.

A court in Yekaterinburg has convicted Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich of espionage and sentenced him to 16 years in a high security penal colony. The trial has been dismissed as a ‘sham’ by US officials & the WSJ.
