Terry Nation's pilot script is submitted. It features a very different crew than the lineup who are present in the finalised Series A. (1977) This thread will outline the main differences.

This thread will outline the main differences.

If anyone happens to know if a copy of the original insert still exists, please let me know - I'm trying to recreate the Series D end titles as accurately as possible and I'd like a copy 😅

The starfield used as the end credits film insert for Series D of Blake's 7 is the same one used in the opening titles for the television adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. It is unclear which show the insert was originally designed for. (1981)

Series D has a new arrangement of the end credits theme, featuring a more distinct, synthesised version of the end chords. In recent times, for reasons unclear, attempts have been made to cover them up using the previous version... with mixed results. (2002-Now)

Killer is rescheduled until later in Series B, necessitating Gan's only scene to be cut to not break continuity. Had it survived the cutting room, this would've been his shortest appearance in the entire show. (1979)

Paul Darrow includes a homophobic character in his début novel for no apparent reason. (1989)

Gareth Thomas wants to kill one of his critics. (2002)

Two technicians insult Jan Chappell. (1978)

Vere Lorrimer makes all the sound effects on-set for Gareth Thomas to react to. The jury is out on whether this is a masterstroke in directing or unfortunately comedic. (1978)

Derek Farr refuses to return after his only appearance in the series. Peter Tuddenham replaces him as the voice of Orac and instantly makes the character far more iconic. (1978)

Paul Darrow breaks the set. (1979)

Vere Lorrimer has a senior moment at a convention, much to the amusement of the fans in attendance. (1981)

Paul Darrow nearly dies during the filming of “Redemption”. (July 1978)

Vere Lorrimer tries to demonstrate a stunt to Paul Darrow. He gets covered in poo. (Date Unknown)

Vere Lorrimer has a senior moment while directing “Redemption”. This goes down in infamy among the cast. (1978)

Terry Nation scripts a killer security robot to attack the crew. The BBC production budget instead results in the creation of an iconic character that nobody takes seriously. (1977)

Stephen Grief snaps his Achilles tendon before studio recording of “Orac” commences. His stand-in provides less than satisfactory results. (1978)

Robert Holmes begins scripting Traitor before Series D's elements are finalised. This draft includes interesting placeholder names such as “Nighthawk” and “Eagle Base”. Nobody is quite sure if Holmes came up with the terms or if they were mooted by Chris Boucher. (1981)

Series D's single-word naming scheme is only decided upon after all the episodes have been commissioned. Only two of the original working titles are public knowledge, both of which being Robert Holmes' contributions. (1980/1)
