I'm launching a newsletter today called Divergence. The same equations that model heat diffusion in physics also model options pricing in finance. The same strategies used by generals in battle are also found in chimpanzees engaged in conflict. The same behavior that makes up…

Seems to me the best long term play to develop public trust in blockchain based technologies is to introduce the Austrian school in high school economics classes instead of just feeding kids Keynes as the ground truth.

The easiest debunk to the red pill mantra of money and power being necessary to find someone to love you is to go look at the "Personal Life" section on the wikipedia page of any celebrity.

If your intuition was right but your reasoning was wrong, do you trust yourself more or less?

People in this corner aren’t truth seeking but rather identity preserving. Prime example are pseudo scientists. No evidence will ever be sufficient to update their beliefs because their beliefs are inextricably tied to who they are. And your identity is a lot harder to change…

Turns out you can just do stuff.

It is indeed.

Why are there so many big cats (lions, tigers, jaguars, panthers, cheetahs, leopards, etc.) but such few big dogs (wolves, maybe foxes although they’re still pretty small)?

The most productive setup is 9 here. Change my mind.

Math folks on the TL - can someone help me understand why the Borel set on the real line is not equivalent to the power set? I've been trying to think of a counter example and can't seem to construct one.

Rewatching this clip is the only meditation I need.

“A wise man learns from other’s mistakes. A fool learns from his own.” - @ShannonSharpe

A mistake I made early on in my ML journey was focusing too much on theory alone. All the math in the world won’t help you if you can’t deploy your models. Learn your environment and learn about infrastructure, it will supercharge your skill set.

in freshman year, I watched the MIT missing semester class on youtube to figure out how to use a terminal, and got really good at environment config. I ended up helping ~50 classmates set up their machines. that alone taught me comically more than the “SWE” class I took later
