The most well-funded players in the AI space (& their investors) mounted a SBF level lobbying effort to try & "pull up the ladder" i.e. keep the market for themselves. Hopefully, new administration will recognize & avoid their input in new considerations. politico.com/news/2023/10/1…

Users don’t know what they want until you give them the product. So I must want to fight MacOS resizing my windows

The term ‘A-player’ is confusing at best. I don’t think an A-player can lack drive.

There are multiple dimensions in which you can be an "A player." So for example you can be smart, but not particularly driven. Google tends to select for that combination, if only because someone who was driven wouldn't be able to stand it.

"the exact substance of an object is not important, only its properties and functions"

"philosophical point: we never say exactly what vectors are, only what vectors do. This is an example of abstraction, which appears everywhere in mathematics (but especially in algebra): the exact substance of an object is not important, only its properties and functions." T. TAO

I have deep appreciation for what each of Barret, Bob, and Mira brought to OpenAI. We worked together for many years, and we are all members of the team that helped make OpenAI what it is today. They each brought something different to the table. A personal anecdote about each:…

Of the Silicon Valley founders I know who went on some of the psychedelic self-discovery trips, almost 100% quit their jobs as CEO within a year. Could be random anecdotes, but be careful with that stuff.

Updated to #macOS15 and shocked by how, along with almost complete integration of your iPhone into your Mac, other top features include collapsible paragraphs and text color highlighting in Notes

We will instantly have 10X fewer injury-causing crashes right now, with current 'Beta version' technology, in the districts where we will ban people from driving. (Waymo had 4X fewer injury-causing crashes, with 65% of crashes being rear-ended by humans.)understandingai.org/p/human-driver…

Unfortunately, SB 1047 has passed the vote despite many AI experts like @drfeifei @ylecun and myself writing detailed articles on how fundamentally flawed it is. @GavinNewsom Please read our letter signed by @Caltech personnel, alumni, and others and veto this.…

Telegram messages aren't e2e encrypted. It is also a "cloud messenger," meaning that all messages live on Telegram's servers rather than the user's device. With one query, the Russian Telegram team can get every message the French president has ever sent or received to his…

I agree that "every large AI model will run on custom chips". A less obvious question is what are the reason this won't be dominated by TSMC, Intel, etc

Meet Sohu, the fastest AI chip of all time. With over 500,000 tokens per second running Llama 70B, Sohu lets you build products that are impossible on GPUs. One 8xSohu server replaces 160 H100s. Sohu is the first specialized chip (ASIC) for transformer models. By specializing,…

The issue is that LLMs have no common sense, no understanding of the world, and no ability to plan (and reason).

Questions about the BeReal deal. If in 2023, a privately held #Voodoo reported $570M in Revenue, how can it pay $537M for #BeReal? Publishers have huge ad spends. 637 headcount. What does the 40M "Active Users" metrics from the press-release mean, DAU? blog.voodoo.io/articles/voodo…

I think Apple should announce something like that at #WWDC
