If you’re an adult and you’re not reading middle grade books, you’re failing yourself. Here’s why. The MG books I’m talking about are written for kids between 8-14, and before you start coming at me saying kids books are for children and therefore are boring and can’t fully

One day I will jump on my soapbox to talk about how important it is for adults to read middle grade books…… #BookTwitter

i just want my world to revolve around nature and art and books and writing and enjoying life as a whole and i don't think that's too much to ask for honestly

Ugh apparently Amazon is launching an AI audiobook programme. Writing friends we HAVE to take a united stand against AI. The step from AI-narrated to AI written is a very small one. Don’t allow human artists to be replaced by AI

I've been sitting with the news that Scholastic is self-censoring their Book Fairs since Tuesday. On Thursday I was invited to speak at a Scholastic Graphix party, and this is what I said. It's an earnest plea for the company with whom I have made so many books to do better.

Me, a wheelchair user: “Excuse me. You need to move your car. It’s blocking the bus stop.” Driver: “I’m eating. Give me a few minutes.” Me: “You’re going to make me miss the bus.” Driver: “Be patient.” Patience be damned. Disabled people should not have to wait for access.

I'll say it. The problem isn't just Scholastic sending opt in diverse books. The thing I wish librarians accepted about books fairs, Scholastic or not, is it's gross to sell books to kids to make money for your library, especially when many of your students can't afford it.

All right, fuck it. I wasn't going to do this on main but this just kicked me over the edge. I've spent the last year recording every english language fiction deal in Publisher's Marketplace, googling over 4000 authors, and this is what the current book deal landscape looks like

Barnes and Noble dropped their "Best YA Books of 2023" list and every. single. author is white. Y'all. I feel like a broken record at this point because this happens every day

A teacher in South Carolina was reported by her students for teaching Ta-Nehisi Coates’s “Between the World and Me.” The students explained that the book made them ashamed to be White, violating a clause forbidding teachers from making students “feel discomfort, guilt, anguish,…

With Blacktober no longer being a organized event majorly because of all of the racism. Don’t act clueless and say “What why!? They had so much support” like you didn’t watch creators get viciously attacked hour by hour by hundreads of people.

i'm not going to link any of them here, for a variety of reasons, but please be aware of what is probably the deadliest AI scam i've ever heard of: plant and fungi foraging guide books. the authors are invented, their credentials are invented, and their species IDs will kill you

there is freshly made hell for people like them where they have to draw sticky figures over and over again, so they will realize how untalented they are

Artists, if you remotely suspect clients, publisher, and even studios will be training your work through gAI, please consider using Glaze before the final file handoff. Don't even give them the huge 300+ layer file either. You need that to prove your work Just In Case.

Before you run a marketing campaign using any Barbie assets: - Barbie trademarked the shade of pink they use. - Barbie owns their font. - Barbie is trademarked. BARBIE WILL SUE YOU! Be original, avoid that million dollar lawsuit you will NOT win!
