How can governments and the private sector work together so all businesses can develop and deliver cost-effective net zero strategies? We’ve been discussing this with some of the UK’s most well-known brands and the UK Government this afternoon. Here’s what they had to say 👇

Latest renewables auction results = we're back! 161 projects & 9.6GW of capacity online before 2030 Will produce ~27TWh electricity per year in total (10% of UK's current demand) & will avoid 55TWh/yr of gas demand or 10% of imports in 2030 ‼️ shorturl.at/uku9a

As @CornwallInsight said in their latest price cap forecast, "a shift towards sustainable, home-generated energy will be necessary to reduce the UK's vulnerability to international shocks". Listen up, the Times! More oil will not help us. cornwall-insight.com/press-and-medi…

🧵📢 New @CornwallInsight analysis shows wind and solar are off track to meet clean power by 2030. Swift action is now needed to realise the UK Government's clean power ambition. So how can we make this target easier to achieve?

Our latest Benchmark Power Curve report shows that by 2030, solar, onshore, and offshore wind are set to provide only 44% of Great Britain's electricity. Well below the 67% required to achieve the government's 2030 zero-carbon target: bit.ly/4d2DSOE Discover more by…

Tremendous news (I was a tad worried…). Credit where it’s due. This leaves the UK Carbon Budgets as a meaningful legal framework for continued decarbonisation. 👏

We've over-performed on our 3rd Carbon Budget just as we did with the 1st & the 2nd. And we're not carrying forward the 15% surplus - we don't need to. We are the 1st major economy to halve emissions and that success is set to continue 🌎 📹 Watch for more 👇

What a week! It was a pleasure to represent @EnergySvgTrust and give evidence to @CommonsESNZ highlighting the importance of addressing the affordability of energy for households for the long-term. 💡🏡

Hydrogen is crucial for the energy transition. We need lots of it - but not for heating homes. The UK cannot unlock investment, decarbonise or meet Net Zero without clear strategic policy direction from Government - this is a bold, important announcement.

Today we've announced that we will not progress work on a hydrogen town pilot until after 2026, once we've taken strategic decisions on the role of hydrogen in decarbonising heat. Statement here 👇 gov.uk/government/pub…

Abigail Ward (she/her) Reposted

A very sensible decision - for which the UK government deserves credit (can’t have been easy to close these pilots). Electrical heat and low carbon heat networks are the decarb choices that are ready now. Hydrogen still hasn’t made the starting line.

We have decided not to progress work on a hydrogen town pilot until after 2026 decisions on the role of hydrogen for heating. Heat pumps and heat networks will be the main route to cutting household emissions for the foreseeable future. gov.uk/government/pub…
