Crazy to know that India has 33% more expensive electricity than the US in dollar terms On a PPP basis is probably 300% more expensive than the US Huge constraint for industries, which explains why industrialization has been such a challenge
And this is MAKING HISTORY. It worked at the first test!
Ppl already know this but wanted to share. Each of Royal Enfield pinstriping is hand done. From 1960s one person was doing it at Tiruvottriyur plant. Later his 2 nephews have been doing for 20 yrs. 4 more people have been trained now that the plant capacity has tripled. Extreme…
The biggest story in the world right now is China. Everything else is secondary. The last time China was deflating this hard, it was 3% of global GDP. Now it is 20% of global GDP. Undeniably having effects worldwide and cannot be ignored or discounted.
This is actually a great economics lesson. Beyond the obvious using someone else's cool air. In most cities in China, electricity is actually relatively expensive relative to many countries and definitely relative to income. Why is this happening and why is it important? First,…
Guess what are these people sitting in this shopping center for? They aren’t waiting for store opening nor a new fashion on sale, they are just here to enjoy free cool air. They likely live in those high rise residential buildings, but don’t want to turn on their own air.

That's actually huge: China has successfully built and demonstrated the first nuclear reactor in the world that is completely meltdown proof, removing the single greatest risk of nuclear power. newscientist.com/article/244038…
There's an air of excitement surrounding the novelty of Wuhan's unmanned autonomous taxis, which are set to spread across China. It's reminiscent of the ride-hailing revolution over a decade ago, but even more 'futuristic.'
This four second crowd scene from Studio Ghibli’s The Wind Rises (2013) took animator Eiji Yamamori 1 year and 3 months to complete.

Today's Crowdstrike outage reminded me of one of my favorite stories about a single point of failure And it involves one of the most fascinating buildings in the US, the windowless AT&T Long Lines building at 33 Thomas Street in Tribeca, Manhattan 🧵
Find “Japanese” in this chart. Fascinating paper about the role of written technical knowledge in Japan’s rapid industrialization.
Happy to see our WP w Shogo Sakabe and @deweinstein (so many years in the making!) out. We examine the role of codifying knowledge in the spread of the Industrial Revolution. A little thread. 1/N
This is an important point amid all the excited talk about how the US political scene has never been more polarized than it is today. In fact American politics has almost always been highly polarized. In the past 100 years I'd argue that American politics were at their most…
I was today years old when I learned that there were two assassination attempts on Gerald Ford, both were within the same month, and both perpetrators were women. Once again as a millennial I don’t think I will ever be able to grasp how insane the ‘70s were.
30-35% of ad spend by big DTC brands will shift to Blinkit/Instamart within 12 months. Let's talk demand side. DTC/Amazon can't beat 15 mins promise and it's starting to feel crazy that I need to wait 2 days for Whole Truth bar to arrive -- would rather order on Instamart then.…
The space under the bridge in Shenzhen is different.😍😍😍
Update: Shooter dead, one spectator killed and one in critical condition. Just to drive home how close a call this was, Trump's ear was grazed. Most rifles shoot 2-3 MOA, which means they will disperse 2-3 inches at 100 yards - Trump's life was saved by statistical dispersion.
Looks like a sniper attack. I have a new respect for Secret Service counter-snipers.
Gigafactory for consumer electronics, traditionally labor-intensive mfg. Assuming 2 shifts per day, this comes out to 9,000 phones per FT worker per year. At $200 BOM that’s $1.8M annualized per direct labor. At $8/hr wage cost that comes out to direct labor as 1% of BOM.
Just visited a model factory of CN phone maker Honor im Shenzhen, shown a 8000sqm floor full of sealed production lines, robotic arms, sensors & inspection robots. This floor churns out 5000 high-end phones per 24h, with about 100 human workers in total.
