On this day in 1857, Stanhope Alexander Forbes was born. Dubbed ‘the father of the Newlyn School’, Forbes’s painting ‘A Fish Sale on a Cornish Beach’, 1885, brought national recognition to the art colony and the school of painting he founded with his wife Elizabeth.
