This. The people profiting off of prisons don’t want prisons to be obsolete which means they don’t want less prisoners. Prison is a growing business. It’s capitalism. That’s why we incarcerate more people than everyone else by far and we’re like the 129th safest country.
I think it’s important to remind people that mass incarceration is not only morally bankrupt and doesn’t make us safer—but it’s a business—because a business is meant to expand. That’s why a system profiting off policing + incarcerating ppl will only find more ways to do so.
i wore glasses and contacts for the majority of my life. got a surgery that took two minutes and now have better than perfect vision. this surgery can be used for an overwhelming majority of vision impaired people, but we live in a society that prioritizes money over people
you can take them home and come back. never an excuse. no one plans to get black out drunk or no one plans to get sloppy drunk, it’s not about “controlling your liquor”. i’m pretty sure your friend is comfortable to get drunk around you and expect nothing bad to come from it!

Telling people in one of the poorest cities in the country that they should’ve stocked up on 2 weeks worth of food and batteries when they are systematically living paycheck to paycheck is beyond me smh.
Little black boys get they innocence and autonomy and boundaries stolen from them so early on. They really be going through inappropriate behavior and sexualized so young and it has been normalized in the black community and I hate it.
