I welcome sanctions the EU imposed today on Myanmar state-owned gem and timber enterprises and an organization providing support to the Tatmadaw. Myanmar Oil & Gas should be next and all global sanctions should be linked into a powerful whole for maximum leverage on the junta.
The UN General Assembly wisely didn't wait for an ASEAN consensus to vote for banning arms sales to the Myanmar junta. The positive vote was still: 119 to 1. Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, and Singapore voted Yes. Brunei, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos abstained.
