Finally saw Wicked. It's very good, but a bit unrealistic how people casually break out into speech when they're in the middle of a song. Also, it could have used more explanations of general relativity. youtube.com/watch?v=eYmLAO…

On the 5th of December, we're hosting the amazing @abipalmer_bot's sensory video series explaining weather to her indoor cats! There's a panel with her, me and extreme weather attribution/adaptation scientists discussing what this is all a metaphor for eventbrite.co.uk/e/imperial-lat…

(but that's not the baseline used in all the damage calculations you've read, it's still only 1.31C over that)

Brief Communication: Humans have caused 1.49 °C of warming compared to a pre-1700 baseline, a global estimate based on the linear relationship between atmospheric CO2 and temperature @piersforster nature.com/articles/s4156…

The UK needs to accelerate domestic methane reductions by 30% by 2030. It can also support the Global Methane Pledge through its role as a financial hub to stimulate innovation in methane-reducing technologies. Read our briefing ahead of #COP29: ow.ly/sLWw50TPSYt

Some colleagues and I published a short explainer on the role of methane mitigation for the Paris Agreement: imperial.ac.uk/grantham/publi… with Semra Bakkaloglu, @JoeriRogelj and Jenny Bird

I am astonished to report that basically all the papers written by a Chris Smith in climate change are by the same @chrisroadmap, and yet somehow he's not been offered a permanent position yet?

🔴 Back in 2010, the UK had the lowest share of clean electricity out of the whole G7, under 25%. 🟡 Now we rank third, at 60%. 🟢 The new Govt has the UK on course for the highest share of clean electricity out of the whole G7 by 2030, even beating France and Canada. You can…

The New Scientist kindly quote me saying "Please don't use that headline". Interesting study but most policies are designed NOT to make sudden breaks in behaviour (which this detects but people dislike), but to build greener societies (gradual effects). newscientist.com/article/244501…

Next week is the @RGS_IBG annual meeting, and on Thursday I'll give a workshop on making predictions for climate science and policy. I will provide cookies. But do #geographers prefer oatmeal and raisin or oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies? Predict below!

Had a lovely time at Fire&Dust poetry, and it was good to catch up with the team afterwards!

New #WriterInterview just went live! HCE talks to #poet @RobinLamboll - about their #slam wins, science-poetry, inspiration, and much more... Robin also headlined at Fire&Dust a couple of months back. 👍 Read the Q&A here: buff.ly/4dtXLyC

A special thanks to @CarbonBrief for their excellent coverage of our study, which highlights our key findings. Check out their article here 👀: carbonbrief.org/every-0-1c-of-… 4/4

“Our results show why reducing emissions this decade is crucial for the state of the planet. Failing to reach the Paris Agreement target risks reshaping the Earth’s systems for centuries to come,” says Dr @RobinLamboll, one of the co-authors of the study. imperial.ac.uk/news/255216/cl…

Conference chairs should cut off people "asking questions" for more than 30s in a 2 min question session.

This Sunday at 11am I'll be reading some physics poetry for @SundayA_London, now located in the Backyard Comedy Club in Bethnal Green! tickettailor.com/events/sundaya…

I had a discussion about Paris temp targets recently. I don't see any reference to "end of century" in the text. The convention of allowing overshoot for 1.5C is because 1.5C is difficult and weakly stated in the text. We can't apply this to the well-below-2C target.
