Important new article from me for @WIRED Even though the CDC and WHO are downgrading Covid-19, it's still killing people. With perspectives from @BillHanage, @shoshanahjacobs & @epi_dude wired.co.uk/article/covid-…

A question that every academic asks: which journal should I submit my article to? To help academics decide, Taylor & Francis has developed an amazing tool called "Journal Suggester." Here's how to use it 👇

Given that Omicron is clearly everywhere in UK now, the ongoing punishment of South Africa in terms of red list travel restrictions seems pointless & particularly unfair given it was their brilliant scientists who first uncovered this variant for the world. Sort it @grantshapps

Today, I spent a big part of my day talking to genomic and biotech companies as soon we will run out of reagents as airplanes are not flying to South Africa! It will be 'evil' if we can not answer the questions that the world needs about #Omicron due to the travel ban!

I want to be clear about the nu variant. We know what we know BECAUSE South Africa has invested in advanced genomic sequencing. We owe them a debt of gratitude - not punishment. Transparency is critical in a global pandemic. We need to support these efforts collaboratively.

I would like to plea to all billionaires in this world @elonmusk @BillGates @JeffBezos @DrPatSoonShiong @WarrenBuffett to support Africa & South Africa financially to control and extinguish variants! By protecting its poor and oppressed population we will protect the world.

Huge respect for @Tuliodna and the hard work his team has done throughout the pandemic. Please read his thread on why instead of singling out developing countries like SA, we should instead be supporting them👇

Busy day on B.1.1.529 - a variant of great concern - The world should provide support to South Africa and Africa and not discriminate or isolate it! By protecting and supporting it, we will protect the world! A plea for billionaires and financial institutions. 1/8 tweets
