Nailed it!

"In a society uncomfortable with authoritarian measures, it's an admission of failure to rely on legal enforcement and fines as the principal means of controlling outbreaks. Far better to engage communities in what needs to be done." @profchrisham ow.ly/1FKX50BWa09

Enhanced measures are essential to protect the health of our communities. Where though does it leave efforts to tackle inequalities when large parts of the NW are subject to economic restrictions! Addressing inequalities by creating/widening them #chickenandegg #catch22

Tomorrow's @thesundaytimes Data is clear. Political & societal decisions on what to do extraordinary difficult. Very little room for a middle way that keeps things open & also prevents transmission, illness & COVID/NonCOVID deaths. Needs a national debate thetimes.co.uk/article/no-fud…

#TestandTrace ... is not run by @PHE_uk ... but by central Government .

Please do not phone @PHE_NorthWest today on health protection issues unless urgent. Our lines are exceptionally busy. In particular DO NOT call us about access to testing as we do not run this programme (details here gov.uk/guidance/nhs-t…).

If only as a society we could come together to tackle inequalities in the way people have been mobilised by covid! Why did England have Europe's worst Covid figures? The answer starts with austerity | Michael Marmot theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Please get your flu vaccination!

Flu can have serious consequences and vulnerable people can die of it. Having a vaccine will protect you and others. This winter more than ever, with COVID-19 circulating, we need to reduce all avoidable risks. If you're eligible please get the vaccine when it's available.

#COVID19 @shorrockJim @blackburndarwen has found more cases because of more testing-but that is because the cases were there. Identifying the cases is the best way to shut down community transmission. The positivity rate is now falling (from 7% to 3%) - a sign of progress!

Without robust system of test and trace we’re clearly not ready!......
