This day 19 November 1576: Baptism of Roger Manners, 5th Earl of Rutland & favourite of King James I… Manners is generally accepted as the chap who introduced Inigo Jones to the court of James I & Anne of Denmark. Without him, there would be no Queen’s House!

This day 6 November 1946: Death in his Greenwich office of Sir Geoffrey Arthur Romaine Callender, English naval historian and the first director of the National Maritime Museum. Callendar loved The Queen’s House & was hugely influential in bringing the museum here 🙌

29 Oct 1726: Privy Councillor Henry Pelham married Lady Katharine Manners (daughter of the 2nd Duke of Rutland). Lady Kath was Ranger of Greenwich Park 1743-1780 & resident in The Queen's House. In 1745 Henry as Prime Minister arranged an expensive major restoration of the QH.

OTDH 23 Oct 1692 marriage of Rector & one-time astronomical observer from The Queen’s House, John Flamsteed 46 to Margaret Cooke 22. Mrs Flamsteed was competent in maths & occasionally assisted in her husband's work… also finding time for admin at Greenwich Girls Charity School!

Today 22 October 1885: Death in Queen’s House of the mother to Henry Charles Criswick & George Stickland Criswick. Both her sons worked at @ROGAstronomers Eleanor Jane Criswick left an estate of over £10K… that’s about £1.3M in today’s money!

#TrafalgarDay 21 Oct 1807, this gun was presented to the Royal Naval Asylum by HRH Prince Ernest Duke of Cumberland & stood in front of Queen’s House with the training ship. Now displayed outside @VisitGreenwich it’s not quite clear why it was removed from RMG to @orncgreenwich
