Seek refuge in sex and alcohol. Let the wounds heal for a bit. Then pick yourself up again and return. It’s not about how smart or talented or whatever you think you are. It’s about how many times you can fall hard and get back up.
Look, maybe you’ve lost it. Ok? Maybe you’ll just never really rise above the fray. Maybe you’ll be forever condemned to use your skills to hang together and survive the tribulations of middle class, middle manager, mid-life crisis, mediocrity. Maybe.
It’ll be alright. You just have to be a little flexible with you definition of what alright means.
Sometimes it will all be too much. Just too much. You’ll want to self destruct and hide all the evidence. Don’t give up. You’ll be hungover tomorrow. But you’ll rise again.
If you get stuck along the road try with a bit more alcohol.
“How do they treat people who have nothing to offer them? People with no power, money, or to whom they aren’t sexually attracted. Often, just watching someone interact with a server can be very telling.” linkedin.com/pulse/we-need-… This is an easy trap to avoid. Show kindness.
None of what I’m writing and sharing with you is shared with the intention of helping you. My true intent is always to benefit myself. Never forget that.
Other people are just means to an end. Tools to help you achieve your desired goals. Just remember that these tools are least effective and most unreliable when they feel like tools. They want to feel important. They want to feel like they have agency. Let them feel
Don’t confuse power and luxury. Power is not a means to get more luxury. Luxury is merely a tool to display power for the purpose of getting more power.
If your character no longer serves your goal then you have to rewrite the character. People change. And people love seeing other people change and evolve. Just make sure to make up a good reason to justify.
You must be able to make yourself as a character. Not just to act it but to craft the personal traits, beliefs and appearance that will most likely allow you to win.
The game is rigged. In many ways. You can be against the rigging that gets in your way while benefitting from all the other ways.
You can’t avoid getting in trouble. You will make mistakes. Otherwise you won’t get far. What matters is how you get out of trouble. Making both professional and personal mistakes is an advantage because you can admit to the latter and earn forgiveness with little consequence
Be cynical. But never reveal the true depth of your cynicism to others. All you’ll get is a brief reaction of shock, disbelief and revulsion. And you’ll quickly lose the chance of having people confide in you.
