I took a 6 month sick leave as soon as I began my PhD. Then, over the next 3 yrs, I got scooped on 2 out of my 3 projects, having to reorient my PhD topic in 4th yr. I ended up staying a total of 7 yrs in my PhD lab to wrap up my thesis & all the papers. science.org/content/articl…
