Today’s #FeelGoodFriday recipient is a @ChiPubSchools alumna-turned-teacher! Kimberly Saunders decided to pursue a career in education because of the positive educational experiences she had as a former CPS student. Congratulations, Ms. Saunders and thanks for all you do!
TV III students learned how to use Adobe Spark, a website for creating picture collages, posters & short vids. They took pics as a part of a unit on BLM and social & racial injustice. Each were given a word & had to create a poster based on that concept. We hope you enjoy!
With COVID-19, Peace Week will move online, but will have the same focus. Ms. Saunders remains hopeful, despite online learning challenges, students will have a happy and successful school year. "I promise, if we can all get through this year, then there’s nothing we can’t do.”
After rallying her students, they created and delivered cards for Takiya’s classmates. They spent hours with the middle schoolers and the result was the first Peace Day. Now the annual tradition has grown into a full week of honoring students who have been killed by gun violence.
Ms. Kimberly Saunders has been a beloved @ChiPubSchools teacher for for almost 28 years. Known for her creative television production and journalism classes at Julian High School, she is always looking for teachable moments with her students, both in and out of the classroom.
In 2017, Ms. Saunders heard about Takiya Holmes, an 11-year-old who was tragically killed by a stray bullet on the South Side. She knew this was a powerful moment to teach her students an important lesson in community support, looking out for one another, and healing.
That’s my TV Broadcast student!!!!! Super proud of her! Thanks for giving Kiana the opportunity True Star👏🏾@PLJBroadcasting @myron_hester @JanetJackson
