It's still time for love in the Saane River. Now, the Brown Trout are spawning: mouths wide open, fins vibrating, the female (in the middle) and three males release eggs and sperm. A new life cycle begins for the Saane River Trout.

It's not easy to find pristine rivers in Switzerland. There are a few ones in remote areas like the Gruyère Alps. This little stream is teeming with larvae of caddis flies, food source for animals in and along the creek. But above all, it is a sign of the best water quality.
For some time now I have been taking photos in a nearby peat bog. These are waters of creepy beauty, colored red by tannic acid. Tench in particular live there. At the bottom they dig for food with their mouths, whirling up loose parts. #fish #underwater #freshwater
Okay, that looks a bit strange! In this underwater shot of a small creek in Gruyère, I made a red circle around every Stonefly larva (Plecoptera) on the aquatic plants. I saw 71. This is a perfect habitat for aquatic insects, basis of life for fish, bats, amphibians and birds.
