US sanctions have not only impoverished ordinary Iranians, they’ve limited access to technology from the outside world This is a tacit admission that the US has been a partner of Iran’s gov’t in repressing Iranian free speech Support the Iranian people! Lift sanctions now!
This is a positive step. But it's reactive. It shouldn't take blood in the streets to get the US government to review sanctions policies. A new GL was needed because sanctions were applied in a way that hampered the access of the Iranian people to critical communications tech.
We took action today to advance Internet freedom and the free flow of information for the Iranian people, issuing a General License to provide them greater access to digital communications to counter the Iranian government’s censorship.
