Newspaper owner Jimmy Lai sentenced to 5 years and 9 months for fraud in a political witch trial to hunt down dissent from the CCP regime. Jimmy is a British citizen and must receive vocal support from HMG. Serious questions to be answered by foreign judges in Hong Kong.

#BREAKING: Hong Kong media tycoon and Apple Daily founder Jimmy Lai is jailed for 5 years and 9 months, and fined HK$2 million over a lease violation. Lai was earlier convicted of fraud after his consultancy firm used office space in breach of lease terms.

The United States condemns the grossly unjust outcome of Jimmy Lai’s latest trial sentencing. By any objective measure, this result is neither fair nor just. We once again call on PRC authorities to respect freedom of expression, including for the press, in Hong Kong.

Awful, credible reports that the Chinese Consul General in Manchester, Zheng Xiyuan, has been personally involved in vandalism and possible assault. If so @JamesCleverly should put in an official request for him to leave his post and return home.

Multiple people believe that the man kicking down the banner could be Consul-General Zheng Xiyuan.

A Hongkonger was dragged into the PRC Consulate and beaten. If the consulate staff responsible are not held accountable, Hongkongers would live in fear of being kidnapped and persecuted. Foreign&Home Secretaries must Investigate and protect our community and people in the UK.

This photo suggests that protestors were assaulted, and that the Consul General had full sight, and quite possibly was involved, in the assaults. @gmpolice clearly in very difficult circumstances, appear to be seeking to rescue protestors. @AmbZhengZeguang must be summoned.

.@SuellaBraverman & @JamesCleverly need to urgently investigate. The CCP will not import their beating of protestors and denial of free speech to British streets. Chinese Ambassador should be summoned & if any official has beaten protesters, they must be expelled or prosecuted.

Shocking video spreading on HK Telegram channels showing someone from the PRC Consulate in Manchester kicking down pro-democracy signs. A protestor then appears to have been dragged behind the Consulate gates and beaten by consulate staff.

🚨 Wow. On the eve of the handover of #HK the PM for the VERY FIRST TIME speaks about “holding China to its commitments”. Does this mean we will finally see some accountability and action? #SanctionsNow #BeyondBNO

25 years ago we made a promise to the people of Hong Kong. We intend to keep it.
