Excited to share that my research team at @uoregon has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities @NEH_ODH! We can’t wait to spend the next three years "Extending the London Stage Database." #NEHGrant neh.gov/news/NEH-grant…

As an academic, I can hang around a dying institution with the best of them, but as a former j-school kid I have limits. Find me on the socials using this QR code, also in my banner.
As with #Wikipedia, so with #ChatGPT : just telling students not to use it is futile and a missed opportunity to teach information literacy. So, what are we going to teach them about how to use AI-generated text ethically, critically, with creativity and care?
Very grateful to @kallewesterling for reviewing the #londonstagedatabase and to @roopikarisam @jenguiliano for cultivating this space of open, collaborative peer review and aggregation. #ReviewsInDH

Cats are so good. There’s just a little guy in my house! We hug! We don’t speak the same language! We’re best friends! He bites me! I make up little songs about him! He doesn’t know my name! We fall asleep next to each other!
Feeling real loss for this site. Trying to soothe myself by focusing on what a great public display we're getting of what happens without the invisible labor of maintenance. technologyreview.com/2022/11/08/106…
I am begging for more libraries and archives to offer super-short-term research fellowships. As a mom with kids in school, I can’t pick up and move cross-country for 3 to 12 months, or even 1 month. But you’d be AMAZED by what I can get done in 1 to 2 weeks with no interruptions.
I’ve been in some archives where people have laughed to find a box filled with what turned out to pretty much be printed out versions of a website. But when those people realized those print outs are the best remaining record of that website the laughter quickly stops.
I'm doing a lot of preaching right now to colleagues at History departments about what's happening w/ text mining research in Europe (which is booming) vs the US (which has invested in data science but excluded humanists). If you're a History chair, you could invite me to talk.
sometimes I think I miss grad school but what I really miss is all my friends living in the same city
Check out this amazing #DataVisualization using the #LondonStageDatabase and #AIart. It's so exciting to see the compelling uses that people and machines are finding for my little dataset that could. @NEH_ODH @asecstaps #digitalhumanities #c18

ObservableHQ is offering a notebook for visualizing + exploring your tweet data for those of us wondering what the hell we've been up to for all these years on this site observablehq.com/@observablehq/… it's certainly something to see
dismantling the ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability team that @ruchowdh led is still shocking, even now, hours later this might be the single most ill-advised, self-destructive impulse elon's acted on yet. and this has been a strong week for his self-destructive impulses
