I never imagined that I would be turning a chapter in my life in a city where I grew up imagining how it used to look before the war. What an exciting experience it has been to move back to 🌍 I want the next few years to bring more decolonisation and radical changes.

Mogadishu Via Roma street in its past and present day. It’s a unique feeling when I find archive photos because I’m reminded of memories that I never had myself. I stood where the photo might been taken and could not believe that the white building used to be a cinema.

My little sister’s Iftar community event is today, an evening of solidarity, reflection and networking. I wish I could be there, but zooming in from Mogadishu. 👌🏾

It brings me so much joy to listen to my 16-year-old sister talk about her first job in a community-led organisation. I kept smiling the whole time as she discussed her community event ideas because at her age she’s working on social issues and thinking about solutions.

Nostalgic of Mogadishu pre-civil war and the culture that faded away. So I turned my living room into a local African photography studio where our parents would’ve visited and taken those infamous photos before migrating to the West.

They said that the apple never falls far from the tree! Her late father, Elman Ali, may his soul rest in eternal peace, stood up to help the helpless people when the only sound that could be heard in Mogadishu was cannon. She is following the footsteps of her late father. #Somalia

Just watched #Arday by Bile Media and was truly moved by the show's focus on mental health. It's great to see this important topic being addressed, especially since many young Somalis struggle with undiagnosed PTSD due to ongoing trauma
