TIMOR-LESTE: Our team continues to assemble packages containing essentials like toiletries, food and clean clothes for the many patients MAF airlifts to hospital. Pray that the hearts of those who receive these care parcels will be touched and they will… dlvr.it/QyRyFN
Visited an @alolafoundation mobile library yesterday in Lospalos #Timorleste. Look at this great line up translated into tetum - hungry caterpillar, hats for sale and my favorite Hattie and the Fox. Proud to work with 🇹🇱 Min of Education + Alola . #literacy @AlolaAustralia
So excited to launch the ALMA teacher monitoring program With HE Minister For Education in Lospalos #TimorLeste This program has been getting great results across the country. Better prepared teachers = better students. @PHD_TimorLeste @alolafoundation @AlolaAustralia
Australia's Ambassador to Timor-Leste is onboard our aircraft today admiring the view!
Two aircraft hard at work today! A charter to Suai, then both planes head to Los Palos to allow staff from the Australian Embassy, Timorese Education Department and Catalpa to celebrate the success of a teacher training program being run there!
Despite being married to pilots, many MAF wives don't like to fly in a small plane! Do you like flying in a small plane? Why / why not?
Where do we fly? Baucau! The second-largest city in Timor-Leste.122 km east of Dili, via the road. 6kms from the city, upon a plateau, is the Baucau International Airport, with a sealed runway of 2,500 metres in length. This is the longest runway in Timor-Leste.
Where do we fly? Los Palos! Los Palos is a short grass airstrip (750m) in the east of the country. Los Palos is unique as it has a road running through the airstrip, so pilots must be on the lookout for vehicles before landing.
Where do we fly? Viqueque! Reopened in 2015 after major reconstruction, Viqueque airstrip is a gravel runaway, 960ms long. It is a short distance from the town and since it’s reopening we have been able to carry out 33 flights to this location, including twelve medevac flights.
'Using the Ambulansia app on the MAF phones helps the pilots know more about the med-evac patients they will be transporting.' Nice words from @MAF_TLE on our Ambulansia software, which has now logged + shared over 2,500 emergency incidents for better response! #tech4good #ICT4D
Where do we fly? Same(pronounced Sah-may) is a city in the southern region of Timor-Leste. 81 kms south of Dili by road. The grass and gravel airstrip at Same is 820m in length and is located just a short drive from the town. With MAF you can be in Same from Dili in just 25 mins.
Where do we fly? Suai! The airport in Suai was fully renovated in 2017 and now features a sealed runway 1500m in length, an international terminal and a control tower. Flying to Suai in the Airvan takes 30 minutes through some of the beautiful mountainous areas of Timor-Leste.
8am and Pilot Jason is off to Atauro on his second medevac for the morning! His first flight was at first light! A motor vehicle accident last night left seven people injured and needing medevac transportation to Dili this morning.
Where do we fly? Maliana! In the western area of Timor-Leste is Malian where the airstrip there is made of grass and gravel. By road, Maliana is 149 kms southwest of Dili. To fly with us to Maliana is just a twenty minute flight, only 59kms as the crow flies.
Where do we fly? Oecusse! The airport here is being reconstructed at the moment and runs parallel to the coast line. Travelling to Oecusse in the Airvan takes 50 minutes, but by road or sea can take much longer, even overnight.
Where do we fly? ATAURO ISLAND! Atauro airstrip was reopened for use in 2014 and provides easy access to recreational locations on the island. The 720m airstrip is most often used to provide medevac flights for ill people off the island. Just a 15 min flight to Dili.
Published by @theMJA today - our landmark study shows #TimorLeste has amongst the world's highest rates of #rheumaticheartdisease. Devastating! #mendingbrokenhearts #womenandgirls #globalhealth #rhd Learn more at ow.ly/ehaY30juOFq
Did you know that when ever one of our MAF planes is in the air, that someone is watching? Tracking the plane's trip increases safety and allows the ambulances to be present for medevacs on time.
The MAF Timor-Leste team could not function without all the staff we have working with us around the world. Like our Chief Pilot, Marcus Grey who ensures our pilots fly their best! Engineers, IT, finance, safety, HR people, and more who work to help us do our job here in Timor!
Introducing Anatta, our longest serving MAF Timor-Leste staff member. She has worked with MAF for seven years working in the homes of four of our MAF families over the years. She is an enormous help to the MAF families, but especially the mothers! Thank you Anatta for your work!
