With the support of 119 countries, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution that calls on Myanmar’s military junta to restore the democratic transition and calls on all member states “to prevent the flow of arms into Myanmar.” The international community has spoken.
If @ASEAN is actively undermining us in UN General Assembly, we urge @NUGMyanmar to tell the international community to drop ASEAN centrality. We should also think about leaving ASEAN for good.
Tomorrow the UN Gen Assembly will consider a resolution that includes a call for an immediate embargo of weapons and military equipment to Myanmar. I urge all states to support it & then refer it to the Security Council for immediate action. undocs.org/en/A/75/L.85
What can the world do about the military junta's relentless assault on the people of Myanmar? How about stop enabling it? I'm doing an inventory of nations who have or are supplying them weapons, those supporting an arms embargo and those choosing to do nothing. Stay tuned.
