Positively Parisian — this portrait of the amazing artist @charlesmarykubricht enjoying a glass of Sancerre & our @mannysbistrony escargots at a table in the sun. Bon appetit, dear Charles Mary! 🍽️❤️ #mannysbistro #mannysbistrony #artists #art #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity

Why are we still using the Danielson Model to evaluate teachers when countries that outperform us—like Finland—don’t use it or anything like it? Backed by Gates in 2009, it became high-stakes, but even Danielson says it's misused. Trust, autonomy, and support build better…

Students don’t like getting in trouble. I think it’s important to believe that. If you think they like it… dig deeper.

Holiday break is to rest and spend time with family & friends. So, no work, no homework, no PD's, no new curriculum, no emails, no assignments, nothing. School is closed.

Parents who support their child’s teacher… parents who demand high expectations for their own child’s behavior… those parents are awesome!

We love it when the fabulous @decesarejohn does this classic: 🎶 I got sunshine on a cloudy day … 🎶 A perfect song for today. Bravissimo, dear John! Jazz Sundays with the @victorneufeld band @ @mannysbistrony are the best. ❤️✨❤️ instagram.com/reel/DCpCYwzR9… #mannysbistro #NYC

It's so important to be mindful of stress levels this time of year (report cards, conferences, holidays, etc.). All on top of teaching. Limit meetings, keep planning open, give breaks from duty & ask how else you can help them. This time of year servant leadership is critical!

School culture is not something that just happens.  It’s something you build daily with what you value and with how you spend your time.

I went back to visit my former school this morning. It was rainy and traffic was terrible. Teachers were late. Teachers had to cover. Admin was scrambling. I was reminded of the many stresses that educators in a school have to deal with. Much respect for those doing the work.

Keep in mind there a student that needs you today. - It might be your high five, your smile in the hallway, the conversation about a life lesson, your classroom vibe, or maybe it’s just you being you. Giving them that sense of “safe” and comfort today. ❤️Let that sink in …

The best news: Our foie gras appetizer is back on the specials menu! The foie gras comes pan-seared with caramelized apples & a delicious @grandmarnierusa sauce on toasted brioche. Come in and try it! 🍽️ #mannysbistro #foiegras #frenchfood #bonappetit #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity

The most powerful conversation you have with a student... you might never remember.  But that student will.

I spoke with a principal today who welcomes all the subs in the building as part of her morning announcements. She uses it as an opportunity to make the subs feel valued and to underscore the high expectations for students. How cool is that!?

One of the most valuable experiences a student can have… is their hard work paying off.

As you go into this week, remember why you do this work. Remember why you chose the toughest job in the world. BUT, also remember what makes you special. The fact that there is a child you teach right now that needs a teacher just like you. Let that sink in. It’s powerful ❤️

One day at lunch I heard two teachers talk about what they might do to help a student who always seems to be eating lunch by himself. I was so proud to be their principal at that moment. There is NO substitute for caring about kids.
