Absolutely masterful interview on Gaza of Dominique De Villepin, former Prime Minister of France, who famously led France's opposition to the Iraq war and who, IMHO is the best diplomat the West has produced in decades. This is so important, so incredibly well argued, that I…

The so called Royal family get £86ml. The most expensive in Europe. That’s going up to £125ml in 2025. It’s untaxed. It’s public money. Not enough though to persuade Prince William, who is President of the FA, to attend a World Cup final. The Royal family are a waste of money.

Beyond parody.

I am deeply honoured to have been awarded a Damehood (DBE) for public and political services, having been nominated by our Nation's greatest Prime Minister since Margaret Thatcher, the Rt Hon. @BorisJohnson, it was an honour to serve in his Government as a Minister & a Whip 🇬🇧

"Thames Water chief Sarah Bentley paid £1.6m". So there you have it. Less than a month after saying she would refuse any bonus Sarah ("I'm heartbroken about sewage") Bentley snatches a £1.6m pay packet. Next time WCs say "SORRY"! bear that in mind. thetimes.co.uk/article/thames…

Well, well, well, well, well, would you look at that. @SouthernWater is refusing to release 53 board documents relating to the company's sewage dumping operation after being ordered to do so by the Information Commissioner. What could they possibly be trying to hide?

Southern Water privately owned by Macquerie an Aussie Finance Group. 6 mths ago ICO ordered them to disclose docs of their meetings about its sewage dumping, previous year it had pleaded guilty to 51 offences of discharging billions of litres of shit into SE England's waterways>

Now there's a horrifying bit of maths. We, the tax payer, sold it for £6.1bn and so far water companies have "extracted £72bn in dividends + unknown billions through intragroup transactions". We got f**ked.

In 1989, Tories sold English water/sewage entities for £7.6bn, gifted £1.5bn to private companies = net price £6.1bn. To date, shareholders have extracted £72bn in dividends + unknown billions through intragroup transactions. Privatisation is a scam. leftfootforward.org/2023/05/heres-…

Ladies if you ever miss your train & cannot get back home don’t try to check into ⁦@HiltonHotels⁩ I was told there was a room but after I had no photo ID this happened. Always be prepared to tell men (even strangers) where you have been & why you are out at 1am.

A dark day for media freedom which sets chilling precedent for public interest journalism The Court of Appeal has ordered Carole Cadwalladr to pay £1 MILLION+ in court costs to Arron Banks This despite a judgment ruling that her tweet & @TEDTalks was in the public interest!

A dark day for freedom of the press, for everyone who cares about it and for every journalist & news organisation that believes in public interest reporting. A statement:

A food bank quite literally losing funding because a coronation needed celebrating. That’s roughly where we are right now.

Sent a copy of my book to a friend in Spain. It cost me £11 to post and then he had to pay almost 10 Euros in custom charges at his end. Quite apart from what Brexit has done to business, it has tainted these little pleasantries and courtesies. It’s a poison.

We're "sorry" we've given £72,000,000,000 of your money to our shareholders but that means we've now got none left so we think you should give us some more. Let's call it another £10,000,000,000 as a bit of a down payment shall we? Bloody hell!

After dumping sewage in seas, chemically polluting rivers, failing to upgrade Victorian pipes & handing huge dividends to shareholders, all water firms have to offer is “sorry - oh by the way we’re putting your bills up”. What a shitshow. @Feargal_Sharkey bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…

Broadcasters and journalists should challenge ministers who use the term "illegal" immigrants when referring to asylum seekers crossing the Channel in small boats. It is poor journalism not to do so.They may be "unlawful" but they have done nothing illegal. Why not say so?

Our monarchy isn't a social glue. It's a gilded veneer, that makes grotesque disparities of wealth and power seem normal.

Cried at the polling station this morning as the old lady in front of me, who had struggled to walk there, was turned away. She had photo ID but not the right version. When I handed them my passport, they questioned if the photo was me. Horrible atmosphere. #election2023 #VoterID
