We need a new partnership between govt & the voluntary sector; one built on respect rather than servitude. Local charities can respond faster & far more sensitivity to community needs, with a level of knowledge & care which is impossible for remote statutory bodies to achieve.

Community sector organisations provide vital mental health support for many people. But they are hampered by insecure contracts & short-term funding. With @Rethink_ we've explored the groundbreaking potential of mental health alliances: centreformentalhealth.org.uk/publications/m…

The incredible @GeorgeFielding1 telling it exactly the way it needs telling in his own inimitable style. We requested it to be in the manifesto and now we must campaign it into existence! #MinisterForYoungPeople

Truth right there. 👇 We are caught up in this repeated cycle of none sense commissioning that organisations have to appease to survive. As such, nothing changes and good money goes to waste. Ask the correct questions, but make sure you ask the “right people”. @TrowsdaleGary

Getting narrative right by asking the correct questions will be key to dismantling the treadmill to nowhere the establishment has been on for over a decade. Kids aren’t dying in wealthy affluent areas. Until we level up poorest communities the symptoms will continue to manifest

"Universal access to school counselling in England would generate lifetime financial benefits to the government of £1.9bn, against a cost of about £250m" Protecting & improving young people's mental health can help prevent a whole host of negative outcomes & costly treatments.

Children’s mental health is at crisis point. Our new report with @CitizensUk and Public First highlights the scale of mental health issues among young people, and the many positive impacts counselling in all schools can have. Read the full report 👉 orlo.uk/ze4e0

My goodness he’s got it…..question is now how does he influence policing to be more preventative than reactive and where does the money come from for sustained investment?

Ok so this is spot on @PoliticsJOE_UK On another level though isn’t it time to talk about wealth disparity? Unfairness off the scale and the gentrification of poor communities creating crime by design? Solutions? #London

🚨 Another day, another government announcement. This time on Personal Independence Payments (PIP). We’re not a political football. We are people, living with mental illness, trying to make ends meet. This debate is aimed at us, rather than including us.

"The problem with increasing sentencing is it doesn't work. When young people don't have hope or aspiration, you're not going to stop them carrying knives by saying you're going to go to prison." @Niven_Rennie says tougher laws will not solve knife crime. #TonightVMTV

Prisons are full of people affected by mental health/addiction/ homelessness who shouldn’t be there. It’s a reflection of our broken mental health and housing systems. We warehouse vulnerable people who should be kept in communities with the right support. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotla…

🧵 Research shows that racism can cause trauma, anxiety & depression - but it also stops people from getting help when they need it. We explored how services can tackle the barriers people from racialised communities face to getting mental health support centreformentalhealth.org.uk/publications/p…

🧵 The evidence is clear that poverty is a major driver of poor mental health - and that we can't boost the nation's mental health without addressing poverty. Check out some of our work on this topic over the last year 👇
