As someone who's dabbled in trying to do ambitious things and improve the world, part of me loves the Roosevelt Man in the Arena quote. But I think it's missing something important: taking responsibility. 🧵

Ah yes, the beauty of democracy: banning promising technologies to protect special interests.

The beauty of democracy: people can join the pro-bio slop caucus, but I’m in the pro-ribeye one.

The idea that some ppl can be inherently "good" and others inherently "bad" is at the root of an enormous amount of evil

People sometimes ask me what interested me about working at @LeverageRes before. For those interested, this short report on "What an Actual Science of the Mind Would Look Like" does a good job of capturing the flavor of something I'm still excited about. institute.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=…

Just discovered my birthday is also National Margarita Day, so that settles my plans for upcoming birthday!

I've always found Leverage's introspection stuff pretty interesting so I'm excited they're doing more workshops on it again. If you're interested in self reflection and introspection, hopefully see you there!

Want to learn more about Leverage's Introspection research? We're hosting a monthly workshop where we teach people how to access their underlying beliefs. The first workshop will be 6-7pm ET on Monday Feb 19. Attendance is open, though feel free to DM for more details!

I'm finding wedding planning is that bit more complicated given that traditions and expectations are slightly different in the UK vs US in a way that keeps throwing me off.

Does anyone else watch all the seasons of a TV show and then, if you love it, just immediately watch it again from the beginning to enjoy watching it, knowing who the characters are and where they end up? Or is that just me? 😅

The worst thing about having a broken arm is that every day is leg day

Of all the random tropes TV shows (esp. detective shows) use—the time travel episode, the space one, the prohibition era PI—I really think more should use the "all the characters burst into song musical episode" one! 🥂 @LuciferNetflix @BuffyTVS

Who should care about our analysis of the nuclear energy situation? Edwin Lyman (@NucSafetyUCS) at the Union of Concerned Scientists is one important person. We reviewed his book-length treatment of new nuclear technologies and found it (1) informative, but (2) imbalanced.
