Ironically, the biggest single culprit in the pension fund crisis of 2022 was possibly Andrew Bailey. Under his watch, the PRA actively encouraged pension funds and life insurance companies to "hedge" their inflation linked liabilities, as did the Pensions Regulator. Of course,…

Pension funds saw their valuations plunge by nearly a quarter in 2022, partly due to the bond market turmoil that followed Liz Truss’s mini-budget, new research suggests. cityam.com/liz-truss-mini…

In 1977, Jorge Luis Borges, one of the most influential 20th c. Spanish-language writers, told William F. Buckley (whose first language was Spanish) his reasons for feeling, age 78, that English was 'far finer' than his native tongue. Right or wrong, I love his savor for language

Raising corporation tax from 19% to 25% in April makes no sense. @RishiSunak @Jeremy_Hunt need to change their minds. The @OBR_UK should be a guide to policy, not a straitjacket. I explain why in my latest @Telegraph column, summarised below: 1/8 🧵🧵 telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/…

How do we know that modern warming is due to greenhouse gases and not the sun? 1) The total solar irradiance reaching Earth has been slightly declining in recent decades. 2) The upper atmosphere is cooling, as less heat escapes. The sun would cause the whole atmosphere to warm.

People often tell me that the planet is too big for humans to change the climate. But they don't grasp just how massive our CO2 emissions have been. Since the late 1700s we've emitted 1.7 trillion tons, more than the total biomass on earth or everything ever built by humans.
