The "salience" framing on deportations, while relevant in other contexts, just doesn't work that great in practice here for a few reasons. 1) The severity of constitutional/rule of law crisis and its ongoing spread to other areas โย this is what opposition parties are for 2)โฆ
1) Dems are not solely in control of what arguments are made salient in our politics. Trump is doing a bunch of stuff on immigration, very prominently, in fact. Dems need to oppose those things, not least because as public officials, they should feel obliged to contest thingsโฆ
Everyone should think about which topics they want to raise the salience of and why.
