3. Two obvious questions: A. What is the government playing at? B. Where are the big environmental NGOs who asked for this transition, but are now failing to defend it? Why are they not raising hell about this betrayal?

A reminder today as Louise Haigh sets out her ambition for integrated transport networks: Labour is BACKING a Tory policy which deems carbon emissions irrelevant to planning decisions on transport! We're in court over this on Tuesday. crowdjustice.com/case/avoid-the…

Transport systems are not working for the people they serve, and that needs to change. By putting people at the heart of how we design, build and operate transport, we can make it work for everyone.

We are looking forward to Louise Haigh publishing her vision for an Integrated National Transport Strategy (INTS) today. After a positive start in her new role, there are great hopes for this. It marks a significant move towards something long overdue in England.

I have so much to thank the BBC for: I grew up in a part of the world with no objective media and the World Service was our friend. Then BBC World launched and I could never have imagined that one day I would work there, let alone present there. It was through the business news…

Response from @NEF to the Government's White Paper on improving employment support Lots to welcome, with a focus on genuine engagement rather than just compliance, but it could be undermined by pressure to achieve short-term cuts & act 'tough' on benefits neweconomics.org/2024/11/govern…

Beyond the pale for @UKLabour to describe out of work disabled people as "written off" in the same week MPs vote on assisted dying Who signed off on this language @stephenctimms?

This post is unavailable.

The Times! The bloody Times! Good to see the Labour tactic of toadying up to the media's agenda is paying of.... not. Who would have guessed that, eh? 🙄

After the Telegraph it‘s now also the Times pushing and amplifying the Musk/Farage machine on their frontpage. Worrying.

And pensioners, many of whom read the garbage media this sort of rancid nonsense is designed to fuel. Put out by a Labour government!! Labour! I sometimes think this country is beyond repair.

The benefits bill is so high because we use it to fund low wages by employers and high rent by landlords.

If you’re a Guardian or Observer reader, please share this. The need for a strong, free & independent press couldn’t be greater. Yet, here it is. The billionaire Scott Trust is preparing to push a core part of the Guardian over the cliff into the hands of speculators & profiteers

Observer owner Scott Trust has delayed making a final decision on the sale to Tortoise after meeting this afternoon, but said that "talks continue to progress and there are a few outstanding points".

Seems opportune time to share this thread I wrote just 3 weeks ago. This weekend’s heavy rainfall is just a taste of what’s coming. Atmospheric river events will become wetter and more frequent. We know it yet we move from flood to flood hoping things will improve. They won’t.

Inevitably there’s considerable interest in what impacts a Valencia type of rainfall event would have on the UK. A 🧵 metro.co.uk/2024/11/01/hap…
