The desire to have a team use a process or methodology is an attempt to change the power structure. If you feel resistance it's usually because leaders fear they will lose their power if they do.

Thought experiment: What is the complete opposite of context-driven testing? Further: Is *completely, utterly, totally* ignoring *all* context before doing any task even possible? If so, what might it look like? #testing #softwaretesting

1) When managers say "testing is everyone's responsibility", ask if they're supporting or mandating developers to perform experiential testing, read testing books, take testing classes, study critical thinking, read bug reports from the field, set up test environments...

Clark Stull Reposted

24) Remind them that if testing is boring, that's a Severity 1 danger sign; excellent testing isn't boring. It's all about the thrill of the chase! We're looking for really cool bugs before they get away from us and cause us more oh-no-not-this-again work later on! Or...if not...

23) If you want programmers to enagage with testing, connect them with the experiemental aspects of it; the investigative aspects; the productive discontent and complaining that triggers innovation. Ask them to build analytical tools that afford visibility and controllability.

20) If you present testing as a complex, cognitive, *social*, *self-directed*, *engineering*, *problem-solving* task, I guarantee more programmers will happily throw themselves into it. And, if you have testers, MORE TESTERS WILL TOO. So what is the problem to be solved here?

Clark Stull Reposted

28) Frame testing as skilled investigation — experiencing, exploring, experimenting, tool-making, discovering, learning — and you've got a much better chance of making it attractive to smart people, including the developers on your team. Even if you don't have testers.
