Great that the UN Secretary General speaks out so passionately about the Palestinians every day. Some 10,000 have died since Hamas killed 1,400 Israelis. But where were the daily protests by Guterres while over 300,000 Tigrayans were killed, day by day?

Hamas doesn't represent the people of Palestine in an official fashion. It is not a beneficiary of EU aid and development money. Halting this money will only play in their hands as the EU would align itself with Israel in enforcing a total blockade on Gaza.

The scale of terror and brutality against #Israel and its people is a turning point.   There can be no business as usual.   As the biggest donor of the Palestinians, the European Commission is putting its full development portfolio under review, worth a total of EUR 691m ⤵️

We must call out human rights situations that are not on the front pages: Almost 800.000 people killed in the war in #Tigray The savage reality for the people of #Afghanistan, especially women & girls 1,450 political prisoners in #Belarus They deserve #accountability.

We, ICHREE & all advanced nations know that #Ethiopia is neither willing nor able to ensure accountability to the #TigrayGenocide & atrocities in other parts of the country. What is least known is the benefit of stopping ICHREE’s work. #RenewICHREE @JosepBorrellF @SecBlinken @hrw

This isnt new, been used for decades in some areas, not a magic bullet. Can work v. well, if enough food, livestock etc available in local markets, which in severe drought, conflict situations is often not the case. Then cash can push price of food etc beyond the means of locals.

Cash in the hands of people on the frontlines of climate change can be the key to their survival. Great piece on @GiveDirectly from @nytimes nytimes.com/2023/07/03/cli…

Continuation of Tigray seige by proxy.

Hundreds of thousands deaths and the horror is not over yet. Meanwhile Ethiopian government and aid agencies are turning it into a chicken game where 20 million Ethiopians and especially over 5 million Tigrayans are the only ones suffering the consequence. telegraph.co.uk/global-health/…

No, you are not the only one!!!

Am the only one struck by the enormous difference between the massive effort to save five people in the Titanic submersible and the Greek Coast Guard's pathetic effort to save hundreds of migrants from their obviously precarious boat just before it sank? edition.cnn.com/2023/06/21/us/…

The new weapon of mass destruction is not nuclear or chemical: it is just old-fashioned famine - here in North Korea but also in #Tigray. Why bother going to the trouble of making war when you can just starve the masses - just needs a patient evil resolve bbc.com/news/world-asi…

Abiy was obviously too busy.

Followers of a cult travel to Ethiopia "to meet Jesus" They did not find him. Ethiopian and Ugandan police eventually repatriated them back to their home: Uganda twitter.com/addisstandard/…

And high on the agenda, return of IDPs and refugees from western Tigray to their homes.

The following should be on the agenda: ▪️The withdrawal of formal and informal Amhara militia and Eritrean troops from Amhara controlled areas inside Tigray. ▪️ Opening of borders and roads. ▪️Joint statement towards accountability and justice for crimes committed.

What the IDPs of #Tigray deserve is a return home, not to become permanently displaced in their own region and own land. What the @UN and its organizations funded by the EU and US are carrying out is a micromanagement of squalid and overcrowded camps. twitter.com/temesgen_kahsa…

Through a new collaboration with the Ethiopian Humanitarian Fund (EHF), IOM and partners are supporting over 100,000 crisis-affected people in Tigray Region with Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) services.

And what was their response?

on the progress in the investigation into allegations of aid diversion. We have shared highlights of findings & reassured them that we will make the findings public & hold those responsible to account very soon. We also called on the US to resume badly needed aid to the region.

Figures in WFP main operational area, NW, stayed the same. And how do reported thefts from WFP stores in Sherraro relate to 'inflated' figures? So many questions to be answered here. How transparent will investigation reports be?

This part worries me the most. The claim that food distribution targets in #Tigray are "inflated" is very bizarre when you consider the fact that the targets only increased by 4,113 since the resumption of fighting in August 2022. thenewhumanitarian.org/news/2023/06/0…

Highlights critical, central issue of western Tigray in post CoHA Tigray. Withdrawal Eritrean, Fano forces essential but insufficient 4 return home of IDPs & refugees, when home is occupied by resettled Amharas. When, how, is this challenge 2 b acknowledged & addressed?

A structural ethnic cleansing for over 2 years can't be undone with mere false demonstrations. In this digital age, evidence prevails. The initial ethnic cleansing in #WesternTigray, #Ethiopia, paved the way for deliberate settlement. Today, the settlers, along with the…

This goes beyond suspension of food aid, continuing strangulation of Tigray region & mass punishment of civilians by Ethio Gov, inl refusal budget share. Criminally inadequate response from intern agencies & CoHA monitors.

Why are there not such basic supplies? Propaganda from global aid agencies is they are supplying and government authorities are saying all is well as people find peace and love again & get fat on all the food aid .... A cruel charade being played out? #Ethiopia #Tigray

#Tigray: Estimated War-related Deaths in Perspective Compared to wars that have been going for longer periods like in #Afghanistan, #Yemen or #Syria, with estimated deaths between 600,000-800,000, the #Tigray war remains the deadliest war of the 21st century.

Collective punishment of civilian populations in conflict areas is illegal under international law. Yes, its essential to investigate, sanction, diversion/theft of food aid, but how do WFP, USAID justify leaving people starving in the meantime?

USAID cutting off food to Tigray is straight up starvation of an already battered vulnerable group. It’s bad policy and it’s bad humanity.
