I am thrilled to share the news that @GuerrillaMarkt has won the Sharon Stephens Prize. Hopefully the book helps to sound an alarm about the risks posed by marketing to democracy, and to foster nuanced discussions about demobilization and remobilization in Colombia.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the ethnography, Guerrilla Marketing: Counterinsurgency and Capitalism in Colombia, by Alexander Fattal as the 2019 winner of the American Ethnological Society’s Sharon Stephens Prize. Congratulations, Dr. Fattal!
"No estamos huyendo de la discusión política", dice Becassino, mentira: huyen. Su campaña es otra: hacen video de @ingrodolfohdez diciendo "sí", otro diciendo "no", y luego, a partir envíos por Facebook y WhatsApp a votantes geoposicionados, envían lo que la persona quieren oír🧵

La escena en Bogotá a esta hora no podría ser más surreal. Mientras cae un diluvio como pocos otros, el cielo toma un extrañísimo color naranja. Qué momento más extraño e inusual.
Last day of screening! "Limbo" addresses how transitional justice in Colombia is geared toward disseminating carefully framed images. @FattAlx eschews prismatic clarity for hazy projections emanating from his camera obscura. culanth.org/fieldsights/li…

Deep thoughts: If the cloud goes up in smoke and the smoke drifts into the clouds, will data rain?
So many great books coming out about Colombia right now. I am especially looking forward to this one by @federicorios youtube.com/watch?v=BVvr9L…
I just had an incredible encounter. Our doorbell rang, so I opened the window to look below to the front stoop. When I saw a man delivering food, I called out to him, letting him know it must be for our neighbors downstairs. This, so far, is normal.
these idiots have waited years to turn their online civil war era fetish message boards into a real thing and the government not flagging those as domestic terrorism threats in any serious way is completely to blame
As the American public watches a segment of the Republican Party try to smack down the will of the people today, it should hold this moment as motivation to fight the cancer on our democracy that is right wing extremism and the Republican Party that enables it.
We've heard a lot about the "War on Christmas," but Alex Fattal's book demonstrates how the Colombian state has weaponized Christmas as part of its counterinsurgency. Read our forum on Guerrilla Marketing here: culanth.org/fieldsights/se…
