Looking forward to meeting all the attendees, it will be a very interactive and creative session 😊

Extremely grateful to @dr_n_dera & @AfaAppz for running today’s workshop on formulation. Our next two clinical skills workshops will be running in January. Dr Lola Olukotun @TCP_Lola & Dr Sade King @SKing_Psych will be a running a session on psychological assessment. 1/2

Very well done Dr Dera! This research is very much needed. Thank you for amplifying the voices of these Black men and sharing the stories that have long been silenced.

Really pleased to share an infographic on the findings of my doctoral research. The research closed the knowledge gap on stories of therapy engagement among young Black men. These powerful narratives will helpfully inform how systems can respond sensitively to their needs. 1/4

We are disappointed with the targeted harassment and minimisation of serious mental health issues in the recent press coverage of #MeghanandHarryonOprah interview and give our response here acpuk.org.uk/rapid_response…

It was a great pleasure to speak at the @MinoritiesGroup #Minoritiesinterviewevent this evening on preparing for interviews. I do hope it was helpful. The videos I mentioned are here youtube.com/c/DavidMurphyUK. Thanks to everyone @MinoritiesGroup for all your hard work👏🏼👏🏼

Very well put together evening for all the aspiring psychologists. I really enjoyed participating and I’m really impressed by the quality of candidates who will be joining the profession @MinoritiesGroup . Good luck all ☺️

This week is Black Maternal Health Awareness week. I hope that more will be done by the NHS and society to support Black women and their families

Introducing to you the DClinPsy trainees that you don't usually see - remember their names, look at their faces, don't confuse them for one another, say hi to them in class, be kind to them on placement, protect them when the profession hurts them, & always show them compassion.

I wrote a really personal piece for @BritishVogue about my experiences of racial trauma in the current state of the world and some steps that we as Black people could take on our ongoing journey to healing from racial trauma. I hope you enjoy it x vogue.co.uk/beauty/article…

We sent a survey to DClinPsy trainees across the UK to find out their views about racism in the profession, particularly relating to the GTiCP 2019 conference. We released some findings jointly with the BPS; bps.org.uk/sites/www.bps.… Here are some more of the findings (1/13)

Just wanted to plug our podcast based on talking about mental health issues within the Black community. We have a section on self-care tips each episode based on the topic discussed. Please check it out : Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/72D5YC… Apple: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/tho…

Participation would involve a short tel/Skype conversation around coping with the difficult birth, less about what happened. Please do email/tweet if you have any Qs. Black men - your stories are valued. #research #perinatalpsychology #clinicalpsychology

I am still recruiting participants for my doctoral study into Black fathers who have experienced a difficult birth. If this is you, or you know someone who this fits, please do contact me at: oo18384@essex.ac.uk #perinatalpsychology #blackfathers #research

Although it is an event that has been running locally in the US for the past 3 years, there is no such week (locally or nationally) in the UK, despite the fact that Black mothers also have higher mortality rates here too #BMHW20

This week is Black Maternal Health Week, which focuses on raising awareness of the disparities in maternal mortality amongst black mothers in the United States #BMHW20

I am a Trainee Clinical Psychologist who is hoping to speak to black fathers who have experienced/witnessed a very difficult birth, as part of my doctoral thesis. Please get in touch #researchstudy #perinatal #psychology #paternalhealth #birthtrauma #paternalmentalhealth

Society and different cultures have socially-constructed meanings of what it means to be masculine and "strong", which can strongly contradict the male experience of trauma and difficult emotions. Especially during childbirth where the focus is exclusively on the mother and baby

If you are a father who identifies as Black (African, Caribbean, Mixed, or Other), and you feel that you had a difficult birth of your child, and/or found transitioning to fatherhood difficult, please do get in touch (oo18384@essex.ac.uk)

The study for my doctoral thesis will consist of a 45-60 min interview (face to face or via phone) where I will ask Qs about the experience of the difficult childbirth, and how the father processed it. The Qs can be sent prior to screen for any that may be difficult to answer
