If Powell is fired and courts uphold the firing, it would imply any successor could also be terminated if the president disagreed with his monetary policy. In that world, it matters less if the individual is "hawkish" or "dovish': POTUS effectively sets policy.

I've been critical of Bessent but I think he walks before they actively fire Powell. He knows the stakes. "Guarantor" is too strong, but he is on the right side of this. The bigger risk is that they hire some complete joker in 2026...

I am an occasional listener to Dwarkesh's pod, but part of his access is tied to his sympathetic validation for a lot of Silicon Valley's core ideas/interests. He's a product of it. It's certainly not his interview style, which is choppy/laundry listy, rather than conversational.
