Hahaha. Same! I remember reading the email last year and asking myself if I really wanted to work there.
I had been using Ubuntu for 10 years. Last year, I applied to Canonical for a job to develop Ubuntu itself in Rust. Before the interview, they asked me to write a 20-page essay about my life, aspirations, philosophy and whatnot. Anyway, this is my desktop now.
I have only met one person who transitioned from backend (C++) to front end development.
I did! I started out as a front end developer then transitioned to full-stack development. Now, I am a backend developer. It was a great move. It has made me a better engineer and even more valuable.
