25 years ago we chose peace. Today we think about what the Good Friday Agreement ended and made possible, and how we can make the next 25 years even brighter. Visit Ireland.ie to learn more about #GFA25

The evocative poem ‘Oíche Nollag’ by Máire Mhac an tSaoi; recited by the people of Dún Chaoin - a community and place that inspired much of her poetry. #WestKerry #NollaigShona

Terribly sad news about the passing of @dfatirl Legal Adviser James Kingston James was a generous colleague & a gifted international lawyer. His sharp mind guided Irish foreign policy through the most complex legal issues imaginable. He will be missed by his many friends here🇺🇳

Over the years Ireland established a highly professional, distinguished and conscientious diplomatic presence on the global stage, most recently at the UNSC. No one personified those characteristics more than Ambassador Jim Kelly, our Deputy Permanent Representative at the UN.

In fairness to the Kingdom it was looking fairly regal today

Máire Mhac an tSaoi was one of the first women recruited to the Irish diplomatic service. We remember as fine diplomat, a trailblazer @dfatirl & an inspiration for generations of women who followed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Marking the 23rd anniversary of the Good Friday (Belfast) Agreement, the bedrock of peace, stability & prosperity for all in Northern Ireland. It took real courage & vision. The people of NI have come a long way. The EU remains a friend, devoted to protecting these achievements.

This day 49 years ago - 22 January 1972 - Jack Lynch and Patrick Hillery signed the Treaty of Accession, enabling Ireland to enter the European Economic Community. 83.1% of voters supported the move, which Lynch called “a great tribute to our people's innately sound judgement.”
