Not sure how much longer I’ve got on this Earth, and I’ve always wondered what the greatest life lessons from my ancestors would’ve been. So I dedicate this account to my kids. May they look back on my random collection of thoughts and experiences and learn something.

Rms 12:12 In good times, thank the Lord. In bad times, be patient. In all times, pray.

Aspirations are great. Work hard, have goals. But realize possessions will never bring you lasting happiness. Let peace and joy be your goal above any worldly possessions. Both are free and found through pursuit of Jesus.

In the long run, consistency beats talent. Be patient. Stay consistent.

When building wealth, relationships, or goals; set your mind on the long-term. Consistent effort over a long amount of time will grow exponentially. It may grow slowly at first, don’t be frustrated. Be consistent.

Shoulders back, chin up, eye contact. Have enough respect for others to say hello. You don’t have to be witty or charismatic, but say hello. Bonus points if you call them by their name.

Be wise enough to balance aspiration and contentment. Working toward a goal while happy to veer from the path.

Don’t anticipate tomorrow. Don’t be jealous of yesterday. Be joyful in today.

Ask questions. Pursue understanding. Be slow to give your opinion. Know when the argument isn’t worth it. The Spirit can change minds much more effectively than your argument.

If it was never dark, you wouldn’t see the stars.

Gen 41:1 God does not work on your time. Be patient, look around, and enjoy the ride.

Hb 12:16-17 God’s grace knows no bounds. There is nothing you can do to out-sin God’s grace. However, in this life, actions have consequences. Be wise. Accept your consequences. Learn. Grow.

Don’t pursue happiness. Pursue peace. Jesus is the only one who can give perfect peace. Pursue Jesus.

Marriage is not a storybook ending with happily ever after to meet your desires. It’s a way to learn selflessness and sacrifice your own desires for the one you’ve committed to be with. It’s a sacrificial, covenant relationship as such as Jesus to the Church.

Be careful to not trip over discontent while on the road to aspiration.

It’s more important to learn how to lose and keep going than it is to learn how to win.

1 Cor 13: 4-13 Love is a choice. I love my wife; not because she fulfills me or makes me happy, but because I choose to. And I am committed to that choice everyday.

Prv 23:3 It’s never enough. There’s always the next thing. Be thankful for what really matters. Be joyful in every circumstance. Very difficult to do, but it’s possible with Jesus.

Job 2:10 Christians like to honor God when they win the game, get the promotion, or overcome the illness. Remember to honor God in the valley.

You have to be your spouse’s biggest fan. Encourage them, and more importantly, talk highly about them around other people.

We far too often judge our worst decisions with grace and other’s best intentions with condemnation.
