It started off swimmingly. The sun was out. Our spirits were high. Our bellies felt normal. We had a sunset beer. And then the boom fell off. Read about our "dress rehearsal" shakedown sail for the @RacetoAlaska 👇👇 briannarandall.com/and-then-the-b…

Such an interesting story to write for @ScienceNews, and just in time for Earth day! @BatConservation

The @hokuleacrew's oceanic voyages, navigated by the stars, have led other Indigenous people to revive their own ancient traditions – and serve as a call to action on the climate. @guardian theguardian.com/environment/20…

Happy half-century birthday to the Endangered Species Act! I wrote an in-depth story for kids about what it's accomplished @SNExplores + a story for adults @ScienceNews sciencenews.org/article/endang…

Bored at work? Play with this cool new map slider to "time travel" on landscapes in the American West. My story for @ScienceNews, map by @wlfw and @umontana sciencenews.org/article/landsc…

3 women. 750 miles. A wilderness of riptides, cold water and the occasional grizzly bear. (Gulp.) Follow along as I prepare to #SailLikeAMother to Alaska this summer: briannarandall.com/sail-like-a-mo…

Confession time: This science writer likes reading #romancenovels. Turns out writing one was nearly as fun as reading them! #amquerying #MSWL briannarandall.com/wildflour-a-no…

Epic Pacific voyages by a handful of rogue humpbacks are changing how we view their movements. Such a fun story to write for @NatGeo! nationalgeographic.com/animals/articl…

My latest science story might be distressing to snow-loving friends: A record amount of dust coated snow in northern Utah in 2022, which sped up snowmelt by 17 days.

Dirty snow does more than ruin the view. Dust speeds up snowmelt and leaves less water available for people and ecosystems. sciencenews.org/article/dust-s…

I loved writing this feature for @sciencenews and learning how people are motivated to stop the Great Salt Lake from disappearing.

Devil rays! Manta rays! All under our noses (and toes). What a fun story to write and research. @MarineMegafauna @floridamanta

Jessica Pate and colleagues discovered the first manta ray nursery in Florida’s waters. It’s only the third nursery ever found globally. sciencenews.org/article/marine…

Thanks, @BriannaRandall, for including @DucksUnlimited in this informative article about the challenges facing the Great Salt Lake, one of the West's most important wetlands for millions of migratory birds.

Utah can either cut water consumption (why are we watering lawns in the desert?) or pump water FROM THE PACIFIC. Seems a pretty clear choice. Great article by @BriannaRandall sciencenews.org/article/great-…
