Credit to @intonews for hosting the debate. I was particularly happy to see religious control of schools was one of the few topics chosen to be discussed by the panel. From my own point of view - positives: 📌 3 parties mentioned the rights of teachers and section 37 📌…

Watching the INTO Education Debate. Thanks to the INTO for organising it as there is unlikely to be another time we'll hear anything about education in the run up to the election. Unfortunately, so far it's a depressing watch. Halfway through and nothing worth reporting.

It’s very important to keep hammering this home. It needs calling out more. The current Minister has obsessed over the mobile phone issue - an issue for parenting and society, not a schools issue - at the expense of teaching, learning and supporting kids with additional needs.

Instead of spending €9 million on phone pouches, it could be spent on any of the following: - 273 SNAs - 180 teachers - 167 speech and language therapists - 160 occupational therapists - 112 educational psychologists - 26 Dáil bike shed

Ireland would be running a deficit of €6.3 billion this year were it not for 'windfall' corporation tax receipts and the impact of the ECJ Apple ruling When you put it like that…

How are people so numb to this? The very same people that keep covering up this stuff make all the big decisions in schools. When most schools hire a teacher, the school must get the appointment passed by these people. It's horrendous. irishtimes.com/politics/2024/…

I replied to a few people this week after the #Stolen film on @RTEOne with this screen grab, and forgot to mention I wrote it on FB, on the day Eamon Casey died. It sums up everything I feel about the reprehensible past of this country. 🇮🇪

Amazing how many people think they're "a leveller" even though the truth is far from it. There is a reason why Irish people seem to love them (and it's not because of their love of British imperialism even though that's why we have them) anseo.net/captivate-podc…

There's no good argument for imposing drab school uniforms on students. Expensive, unnecessary, uncomfortable, unimaginative, & worst of all, helping to create that snobbery that now exists, particularly in rugby schools. Let the kids wear their own clothes. We're not British
