Church attendance is not synonymous with discipleship; it’s possible to attend consistently without growing personally in the image of Christ. Leaders must look beyond numbers for evidence of transformation in those we serve, revealed in a growing capacity to love God & neighbor.
In a week that's seen the publication of the Nationality and Borders Bill, which is dystopian in its scope, we are resharing our thoughts for an alternative to the Government's plan. We'll do all we can to campaign for compassion, justice and fairness. ⬇️ boaztrust.org.uk/articles/336-a…
I’m tired of having to defend my daughters obvious right to live. Tired of living in a country where your life is valued on your commercial productivity. Tired of seeing families persecuted, prejudiced because their children are apparently “different” So tired of this.
Voters seem (wrongly) to credit Johnson for the vaccine role out, while not really comprehending the scale of his actual responsibility for multiple pandemic failings and 000s of Covid deaths - slow and reluctant response, PPE, test & trace, £billions in failed/crony contracts.
Go on, tell us in a vague way on a Friday night, just two days before loads of restrictions lift, Colonel Useless
Saying “God is in control” inadvertently makes God seem responsible for all the evil in the world as well. Let’s think before we say things like this.
1/3 Today is Stop Food Waste Day! A thread... Did you know 70% of UK food waste is from households?! Not supermarkets or hospitality. That means we have a real opportunity to change this. It starts with us. Here we have a few ideas on how to reduce food waste at home.
“Prayer for others, therefore, cannot be seen as an extraordinary exercise that must be practiced from time to time. Rather, it is the very beat of the compassionate heart.” ― Henri J.M. Nouwen
We were so excited to hear from Lostock Preschool who very generously have collected easter eggs, toilet roll, peas and sweetcorn! 🤗 thank you so much - we appreciate all of your generosity! #Boltonpowerofone #boltonfoodhub
A 'rebuke' is wholly inadequate. The @churchofengland continues to let survivors down with this kind of feeble, 'clubbable' response to serious failings by senior figures. swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/19164562.…
"We participate in the life of Christ when we feed the hungry, visit the incarcerated, welcome the immigrant and orphan, give generously, welcome our neighbors to our table, work to dismantle systems of oppression, and serve our community." - Pastor Tara Beth Leach
One of my favorite prayers is simply to recite the fruits of the Spirit: LOVE JOY PEACE PATIENCE KINDNESS GOODNESS GENTLENESS FAITHFULNESS SELF-CONTROL. As we say them, we remember that this is what God is like. And we pray that we would become more like the One we worship.
It’s okay to be angry with the Christians who called Trump pro-life. It’s okay to be angry with the Bishops who gave Barr an award as he carried out a record number of executions. Let’s use our anger to end the death penalty & to live out a more beautiful version of our faith.
Whatever your Christmas looks like we hope it is filled with peace and joy. From all of us at Urban Outreach we want to say thank you to you all for walking with us this year. Merry Christmas one and all! 🎄❄
It invites us to glimpse the glorious moment when heaven and earth meet and rejoice together for the coming of the Messiah who reigns with justice and righteousness. Christmas Eve, Advent to Epiphany, 👉nazarene.ac.uk/the-true-pictu…
Pretty depressing news. One of the few good things of lockdown has been getting our homeless sisters and brothers put up in hotels. Many lives have been changed for the better. Now looks like government has quietly pulled the funding. manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-m…
The Church must be so deeply & intimately involved with the concerns of the neighbourhood that it becomes clear to everyone that nothing is outside God’s love but it ought not to fit so comfortably that it is welcomed as a well meaning agency of philanthropy.
The longer I’m in ministry, the more I find that the church doesn’t need more leaders who are: geniuses entrepreneurial famous independent charismatic powerful or zealous The church needs more leaders who are vulnerable and holy.
It is a terrible misunderstanding of the Gospel to think that it offers us salvation while relieving us of responsibility for the life of the world, for the sin and sorrow and pain with which our human life and that of our fellow men and women are so deeply interwoven.
