To be fair to Dick van Dyke, we were told nothing about his Mary Poppins character's background. For all we know he grew up in Adelaide and immigrated.
Happy 72nd birthday to the brilliant Rick Moranis. Rick as Michael McDonald on SCTV kills me every time.
From @BenSearsMSYS "Post prandial postmortems convinced us that inauthentic gravy derailed us...Grousing about how dressing should taste or why the lamb was dry didn’t sit with my assumptions of how mom would want us to spend holidays with her gone" ordinary-times.com/2025/04/18/eas…
Guys, the handle @Mollie5347 is impersonating me. Could you help me by reporting it? Seems to have fooled more than the usual number of folks.
"Bellicose" sounds lovely. "What a bellicose day." "You're looking very bellicose today." "Demotic" is like that too; words whose sound isn't their sense.
There is another way: Refuse taxpayer money.

Guy's allowed no runs through five and a half and they pull him. This is wrong.
Blazer's gone, sports quasi-sweater is in. Odd coming into spring, but mistress knows best.
I want to tell you why the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia should matter to you. The one power you cannot give the executive is the ability to imprison or expel anyone regardless of their legal rights. That is our key check against autocracy. And we are watching it disappear.
“Hello…people. It is I…Katy Perry…beloved music…woman. Those who claim…I have been…incorporated…by the glorious Flunpom Empire, may the suns never set upon her…are wrong. I am…the same as…before.”

Just back from George Clooney’s “Good Night and Good Luck,” Broadway play, which is a story about the importance of trust & honesty in news. The play ends with @elonmusk on screen allegedly giving a Nazi salute. The crowd gasps. Except Musk wasn’t giving a Nazi salute, he was…
I honestly think this debate is the dumbest one we have in this country. Of course you should have to show ID to vote. There is no legitimate or honest argument against it. Seriously.
If I have to show ID if I get pulled over, I should have to show ID when I vote. It's not rocket science.
“As a good American, my mood tracks the stock market, which is to say I feel muddled, stuck, kind of okay, but also ready to collapse.” —@NellieBowles #TGIF thefp.pub/4cMvvb3
My son has accepted their offer and will be an LSU Tiger, chemistry/biology subdivision, come fall. He worked hard, earned scholarship offers, and assuming he keeps his grades up, comes out debt free. Amazing work from this kid so far.
From @BenSearsMSYS "Gogarty didn’t win gold. That went to the homer, Charles Louis Prosper Guyot who thought enough of himself that he preferred to be referred to by the mononym (mono-nym?) “Géo-Charles.” “Géo-Charles” was not to be treated shabbily." ordinary-times.com/2025/04/10/poe…
This is the first sentence typed on a new computer, and it feels good.

This was a missed opportunity to call a couple of people all manner of mean things in public without blowback. Extraordinary that the interviewers are not from a Christopher Guest movie.
A totally bonkers interview in which BBC presenters interrogate a politician because she hasn’t watched a TV show…
He's back!
An insider trading scandal is brewing. Trump's 9:30am tweet makes it clear he was eager for his people to make money off the private info only he knew. So who knew ahead of time and how much money did they make?
From @BenSearsMSYS "This was an extraordinary competition. Judges included Edith Wharton and Paul Valery. A yet unpublished Robert Graves was among the thirty-two competitors. Gogarty didn’t win gold. That went to the homer, Charles Louis Prosper Guyot" ordinary-times.com/2025/04/10/poe…
