Music Hubs are vital providers of high-quality music education in state schools. But they have been on standstill Govt funding for a decade while costs & demand have risen.   Now there is a crisis in music education but some Hubs are having their budgets hit from September   1/2

Amazing day happening for @AwardsAYM Awards Day @lccmlondon @_ukmusic students learning about producing, recording, songwriting and the industry! #musiceducation

Great acceptance speech from The Ezra Collective! Thanking those who work in music education… these guys met in a youth club, got support for their progression and ended up bringing Jazz right to the forefront ❤️ It’s hard fighting to keep music alive, hard, but always worth it

Lots to think about for young people at the start of their musical journey. Thinking about enabling progression from the very start, and who and what might be key in that young persons musical journey… thanks @Music_bod for sharing again!

Thinking back on this article today that I co-authored with @Barton_bee Lots still relevant here about Whole Class Ensemble Tuition in the primary school, musical culture and involving parents. Food for thought at the beginning of a new term! doi.org/10.1017/S02650…

‘Getting It Right For Every Child’ means getting a musical instrument into every child’s hands. It means filling their school with music lessons, music-making, and music ensembles. It also means ensuring that it is free for all, not just some. Music Education is a game changer.

"With AYM’s support I was able to continue regular lessons which kept me motivated & improved my bagpiping. As of October I’m now able to start senior band rehearsals & I’m volunteering for an online Piping course. I’m looking forward to when I’m able to go on tours again.” Kyle

A joy to read & hear about Herculean efforts music education hubs are, once again, making to ensure online engagement with as many children as possible. It will never be perfect, but it tells me that (former) colleagues are doing everything that is humanely possible. Chapeau!

😢

This is a crisis that preceded Covid and is now made even worse. If we don’t save music in state schools we risk the education and well-being of many children and the diversity and vitality of our music industry. theguardian.com/education/2020…
