#TuesdayTrees. In 1900 only 2% of land was covered in forestry. Today it stands at 12%. Much of this growth is down to the 24,000 farmers that added forestry to their farm enterprise. Forestry has many benefits and are outlined in the video below. youtu.be/YCyOqe5--so

Apart from growing #trees and #farming side-by-side, farmers who opt for #agroforestry can also stack Basic Income Support for #Sustainability (BISS) and the #Organic Farming Scheme (OFS) with agroforestry premiums (€975/ha per annum for 10 years) on the same land. 🌳🐑

🌳#Agroforestry is an ideal scheme for farmers who wish to plant trees & farm on the same land in Ireland. They can cut silage & hay, run sheep or cattle while protecting their trees. Establishment grant is €8555/hectare & 10 annual tax free payments of €9750 or €975 per year.

Oak is a species for foresters and landowners who take the long view. Income is for future generations, but the cultural and ecological rewards are great. Establishment grant is €1,037/hectare and 20 annual premiums for a farmer over €22,000/hectare – 15 years for non-farmer.

📢Tree planting grants of €6,774/ha & annual tax-free premiums of €1,103/ha are available for 20 years for farmers & 15 years for non-farmers. The separate Native Woodland Area (NTA) scheme provides annual premiums of €2,206/ha for 10 years for small plantations up to 2ha. 🌳
