I’ve watched this play at least 50 times, and it gets better with each viewing
“Watching from the dugout during the play, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo laughed so hard while hanging over the railing that it appeared he might fall over it.” nytimes.com/2021/05/27/spo…
Same. And make sure you hear the Pirates version of the call ;)
As a life-long Pirates fan, I can tell you the opposite is also true... How many fans did we lose with that one play? It will not be a trivial number.
If you’re a Pirates fan it doesn’t age well.....
My favorite part is when the runner calls his teammate safe at home - so spontaneous, clever and cocky. Love it!
Only 50 times?! I've watched it at least 150 times by now.
Ok geeks, score this. I bet every one involved gets an error x the first baseman whose bad decision caused the prob in first place.
Even more funny when you realize all he had to do was touch first base, but decided to chase the runner down.
No big deal. Saw this at my daughter's softball game like twice last weekend.
Javy Baez is living rent-free in the heads of the ENTIRE Pirates team.
He literally could have stood in the base path with the ball and waited for the batter to come back. Batter has to go to first. Force out. No run would count if batter doesn't make it to first safely. Period.
One of the craziest plays I have ever seen and it involves my favorite ball player. You can not for a second, take your eye off Baez.
I can’t stop. The errors in judgment just keep piling up. Like if you won’t step on the bag, run and tag him. If you are going to go all the way back to home with him, force the tag, end the inning, don’t throw the fucking ball. Just absolutely buttery.
I’ve never seen a major league team look so hapless and less full of effort. The half assed-ness on display by at least three Pirates here is staggering. And Baez is genius.
Fantastic play, he has been playing like this from the start. He is a fantastic baseball player. His famous move is to switch hands when tagging the base. El Mago!! Go Cubs
This Pittsburgher is taking comfort in adage that "there's no such thing as bad publicity."
ok, I'm not a fan of baseball, never watch it. But if plays like this happened more often, I'd consider taking in a game or two.
Stupid, third out the only one that counts is the batter. A little league player knows that. Step on the bag or take the runner all the way to home plate, but don't throw the ball.
What I REALLY love about this sequence is that to end the inning the 1B just has to to touch the base that's 2 feet behind him.
😂 gotta hand it to the batter for not giving up and for dashing off to second base after surviving in the first place. Wow!
I'm British..Ive watched it about 10 times..as people keep saying things like 'wow' ..but it still makes no sense to me 🤷♂️
That is fucking amazing… Kindof looks like my “old lady” softball team on Thursday night’s We bad ass bitches stealing bases and drawing out plays
Baez stands next to the ball at home plate and calls his teammate safe, 12 seconds later he's safe at second.
I am addicted to this. Greatest (funniest) play in MLB history. I never even knew that something like this could happen. Brilliant.
This happened twice a game in my 5 year old daughter's t-ball games!
