Here’s a thought. Maybe, just maybe, the purpose of education might have changed somewhat in the last 200 years & so, therefore, the role of schools & teachers may too have changed? Maybe we should acknowledge that? Maybe that is why we are struggling to maintain the “old ways”

It’s disappointing to still read this type of research after all these years. Girls twice as likely to opt out of PE lessons than boys, research finds | CYP Now cypnow.co.uk/news/article/g…

I remember being a newly qualified teacher pre-Ofsted & being told an HMI was coming to check on me. He spent an hour in my class, asked if I was coping with the workload & commented how well organised the classroom was & the children seemed happy. That’s it. How times change.

Back to school this week? 📚 Try Studio You as an alternative to traditional PE lessons! The Netflix-style @Studio_YouPE platform, powered by @ThisGirlCanUK, offers non-competitive activities, designed to give girls a more positive experience of PE 💃 studio-you.co.uk

I was wondering if anyone out there had any football kit they may have spare or be willing to donate for our girls football team at school! I’d be beyond grateful if you could RT this & drop me a message if you know of anyone who may be worth talking to! Thank you 🙏🏼 @HWT_PE

This week we heard that the loss of hours of PE in school - 40,000 since the 2012 Olympics - has disproportionately impacted girls. Only 29% of girls at secondary school think that skills learnt in sports are valuable for them in life ⬇️

In a recent poll, 76% of the parents surveyed agreed that the cost of buying school uniforms put a strain on their household budget. Legislation says that schools should keep branded item to a minimum. There is no good reason for PE kit to be branded petition.parliament.uk/petitions/6412…

Feel quite strongly about this as my son's school has cut Y9 PE to only 1 lesson a week. BBC News - Cuts to PE hours should be immediate national concern, say charity bbc.co.uk/news/uk-665773…

Today, in the first match at the Euros, the @Vitality_UK England Women’s team made history by becoming the first team to compete internationally in a mixture of skorts and shorts A move that has shown how the team are true 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 for the women’s sport🤩

Only 41% of schools offer equal access for girls to play football. Professional women are paid far less than men. Women have to fight for dark shorts. Research focuses primarily on men’s performance. This World Cup has to be a catalyst for change apple.news/ALxbu4ha2RnyNE…

On branded school uniforms. As a boy cadet I got mum to sew on cap and uniform badges. Schools should move to selling branded badges to be sewn onto desired items. Wouldn’t this be better for parents in a cost of living crisis?

An important tip for new teachers: Learn the names and always be kind to cleaners, janitors, office and kitchen staff etc. in the school. They are invaluable, will give you the best laugh and will probably help you out multiple times in a school year.
