Sufyān Ath-Thawrī رحمه الله was asked about being sad for no reason. He said: “It is due to a sin which you were eager to commit in private but you didn’t do so, so you were recompensed with sadness because of it!” [Majmū’ Al-Fatāwā: 14/111]
Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: "Distress, worry and grief happen in two ways: ١. Loving the Dunya and striving for it ٢. Shortcomings in righteous deeds and obedience." ● [عدة الصابرين صحفة ٢٥٦]

Ibrāhim ibn Adham said: "The most difficult jihād is the struggle against desire. Whoever can prevent himself from his desires will be relieved from the world and its trials, and he will be protected and safe from its harms." {حلية الاولياء ١٨}
Ibn Al Qayyim (May Allah have mercy apon him) said: “If a heart becomes attached to anything other than Allah, Allah makes him dependent on what he is attached to. And he will be betrayed by it.” {Al Fawaa’id}
Abdullah Ibn ‘Amr رضي الله عنه said: “There will come a time when people will gather in the mosques but there won’t be a single believer in them.” [al-Munafiqun (p. 95-98)]
Imām as-Sa'dī said: "One of the best things is knowing that people who backbite you will never hurt you. They only hurt themselves." {الوسائل المفيدة ٣٠}
The Prophet (ﷺ) said in his narration of a dream that he saw: "He whose head was being crushed with a stone was one who learnt the Qur'an but never acted on it, and slept ignoring the compulsory prayers." [صحيح البخاري ١١٤٣] (Sahih Bukhari : 1143)
Ibn Uthaymin رحمه الله said: "The test gets harder when the relief is close” [Sharh al-Bulugh, pg. 376]
Abu Bakr as-Siddiq رضي الله عنه said: "Beware of boasting, for what boast can he have who's created from dust, and then will later return to dust, then later maggots will eat him, and today he's alive and tomorrow is dead." Al-Khulafa' ar-Rashidun (pp. 108-110)
Abd Al-Raḥmān b. Abzā – said: “A righteous woman with a man is like a great gold-leafed crown on the head of a king, and a bad woman with a man is like a heavy weight upon an old man.” (Ibn Abī Al-Shaybah, Al-Musannaf)
Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه ) said: "Never say a person has good character, until you see how he behaves when he is angry & never say a person is righteous until you see how he controls himself when he is faced with temptations." {Ansab Al-Ashraaf I10/3311}
Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: “If you see a person whose liking and interest is in listening to music instead of listening to the Qur’an, then this is the strongest proof that his heart is empty of the love of Allah and His Words.” [Al-Jawāb al-Kāfī (1/170)]
