There is no free lunch. Making businesses unprofitable will not drive growth or make them want to employ people. Taxing people's estates when they die will make people move abroad. Ideological objection to non-doms will make them go to other nations. Govt is crap at investing

Chancellor Rachel Reeves faces scrutiny over rising borrowing costs after Labour’s budget. She told Sky News it’s “irresponsible” to rule out future tax hikes, as the pound weakens and gilt yields climb following the largest tax increase in a generation. trib.al/x6uekeL

The election was lost through the utter corruption under Johnson, the craziness of Truss and simple incompetence post Brexit. Sunak never had a chance.

So sad to learn that Alex Salmond has died. I had lunch with him in London only three weeks ago — an epic lunch as it transpired, as was fitting with Alex — and he was in fine form. Full of plans and plots. He even paid! His upbeat mood then make this all the more surprising…

I spoke to @BBCNewsnight to make clear that the case of the Chagos Islands is totally different to #Gibraltar and it sets no precedent that might in anyway thwart our inalienable right as a people to self determination. Only we will determine our future. The Labour Government…

"I am confident that this case sets absolutely no precedent whatsoever in the context of Gibraltar." Chief Minister of Gibraltar Fabian Picardo tells #Newsnight the Chagos Islands decision will not undermine British sovereignty in Gibraltar.

Not Villa. But fortunate that Gary Shaw was a pretty good mate of mine a few years back. We went ‘out’. We had some fun and I really like the man a lot. So come on Shawry you’ve got more to do my son. It’s not your time my friend. #garyshaw #AVFC

Nice close to the week on #SOHO. If I was a chartist, then I'd say it has "broken out" and it is likely to continue on its path to 90p. I'm not a chartist, however, as it's a load of bollocks. I do think I cleared the seller though.

I think I cleared the major seller in #SOHO today. I've been buying steadily when funds allowed, got a call today asking if I would take a large chunk as a clear-out trade. Seller may be bluffing, of course, but I think it's probably legit. 9.5% divi, NAV 114p and rising.

I suspect that very old men in white wigs who don't use or understand social media are being shown posts in a court room and not remotely grasping context.... If we are going to hand out prison sentences for memes, we need to outlaw satire, irony, comedy and sarcasm because they…

JAILED FOR MEME CRIMES A 51-year-old man in Egremont, UK named Lee Joseph Dunn has been thrown in jail for 12 weeks over 3 MEMES. Memes that show images of migrant gangs with a caption saying "Coming to a town near you". This is absolutely insane. What kind of Orwellian…

Martin Brunt on @SkyNews: "Football fans, many of whom align themselves with the far right..." Not me. Not anyone I know. Or have ever known in 50 years going to the game. Sure, there IS a %, but "many" sounds like it's the norm. It isn't. That's balls.
